My Story

Welcome! And thank you so much for checking out my website. My name is Kim Dunlop, my patients call me “Dr. Kim”, and I am a passionate practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture. Many moons ago, I was an aspiring actor, pounding the pavement, looking for work on the stage or screen. Due to some health issues, this particular dream of mine was not meant to be. However, this is not the end of my story. While Hollywood did not hold a place for me there was something even better and brighter waiting for me in the wings. Believe it or not, my health challenges were actually a blessing in disguise. It was because of these health challenges that I was introduced to acupuncture and Chinese Medicine.

Amazed by what acupuncture was doing for my body and my health, I became intrigued by just what the heck my acupuncturist was doing and why he was doing it. So I started asking questions. And he shared many answers. Insights like there was too much heat in my body, that I was blood deficient, and that my liver was excessive. And I thought to myself, “My liver is too what?” And although these terms seemed odd and unfamiliar, I trusted my acupuncturist as he’d been getting such great results for me. I understood that although the language of Chinese Medicine was not as familiar to me as Western Medicine concepts that there must be something to it because I just felt too darn good after my treatments.

These feelings of well-being led to a natural curiosity about learning more. I absolutely fell in love with the theory of Chinese Medicine. So much of it made complete sense to me. I could also see how certain lifestyle habits and patterns had led to my ill health. We live in a time where busy is literally a dis-ease within our society. There is such an affliction of gotta do, gotta be, and gotta have more. And I was particularly fond of being busy, busy, busy. Until my body finally said no more.

With the onset of my health challenges, I learned the value of convalescence, rest, and nourishing one’s spirit. Chinese Medicine encourages a life lived in balance – with time for work, rest, and play. I made a course correction, with the help of my acupuncturist, and I am thrilled to say I’ve been basking in good health for many years now. Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine were life changing for me, and I strive to have that same impact in my patients’ lives. I would truly be honoured if you chose to work with me in learning how to nourish your body, mind, and spirit with acupuncture and Chinese Medicine.

I walked the path of healing, now I want to take you on that journey.

I am a registered acupuncturist and Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine. I hold a diploma in Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine as well as a diploma in Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine from the Calgary College of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture. The focus of my practice is depression and anxiety, as well as helping women alleviate menopausal symptoms. I also had the pleasure of getting my Bachelor of Arts degree in History from the University of Calgary, as well as a certificate in Acupressure Therapy from Mount Royal University.

In my spare time, I’m dancing up a storm in my living room, playing squash, or reveling in my other passion, which is writing. Life pursuits that are still on my bucket list include publishing a book, traveling, and helping to promote acupuncture and Eastern Medicine to become a mainstream method of medicine.

I had difficulties sleeping for most of my adult life and the main issue keeping me awake was restless arms and legs. I tried other treatments through doctors and psychologists and nothing was working. My Wife recommended me to Kim for acupuncture treatment over a year ago. Dr. Kim’s treatments and healthy living tips have got my restlessness under control and I have been sleeping easily for over six months now. I do see her for follow up treatments to

Kim is excellent at what she does. I think it’s not just her training, she’s gifted in her work. I was quite ill at the time and she did a series of sessions with me which gave me back my vitality and gave me better health and increased energy. I would highly recommend her and do. I can trust her to send my friends and know they will see improvements while in her care

Dr Kim made acupuncture not scary at all (which I thought it would be). Instead I actually found it very relaxing! She’s got an amazing bedside manner, she is very kind and you can tell she is very passionate about her profession. I learned a lot about traditional Chinese medicine and would highly recommend her 🙂 thank you very much for helping me, more appreciated than I can say!

I was throwing up several times a day for about 2 years and couldn’t make heads or tails of it. Went through all sorts of medical testing and then I finally figured out it was probably anxiety linked to my depression. Well, I certainly wasn’t going to go back on meds (I hate them) and I tried everything: seeing a therapist regularly, an exercise regime, yoga etc. It wasn’t until I started seeing Dr. Kim for acupuncture that I finally
